We Are Each a Living, Breathing, Walking, Talking Expression of a Moment in Time

Were you aware that, from an astrological point of view, you are the walking, talking, breathing expression of the moment in time that you were born?

You Are a Moment In Time

At the moment of our birth, the planets held a precise arrangement — a cosmic fingerprint that symbolized the essence of that moment.  From an astrological viewpoint, that configuration didn’t just describe the heavens above us; it also describes the inner universe we were born into… In Archetypal Astrology language, it describes the core archetypal dynamics that our souls will be dancing with over the course of our lifetime (also known as your birth chart, or natal chart).

It is a reflection of your soul’s highest potential, your greatest gifts, and your biggest challenges (aka shadow sides).  It’s a record of a moment, of the language the universe was speaking when you entered it, and how that same energy continues to echo through your body, psyche, and soul.

There’s a moment that happens in almost every astrology reading I do. I’ve been watching for it since 2010. The client and I are sitting with their chart — this wheel of symbols and degrees — and something shifts. Not intellectually, but something underneath that.

They recognize themselves.

The birth chart, in the tradition I work within — shaped especially by Richard Tarnas and Steven Forrest — is an archetypal and evolutionary map. A record of the precise moment a person entered the world. At the instant of birth, the planets occupied specific positions relative to Earth, and that configuration carried a particular energetic signature. You didn’t just arrive on a date. You arrived into a moment — and that moment became part of you.

The Cosmic Fingerprint

Every birth moment carries both light and shadow. The same configuration that describes a person’s greatest gifts also describes their most persistent challenges. The same archetypal energy that points toward highest potential also names the places where resistance tends to dig in. Forrest’s tradition speaks of this as the soul’s evolutionary curriculum — the specific dynamics that will return, again and again, in different forms, asking for deeper engagement.

We are not separate from the time we were born into. We embody it. Each of us is a living continuation of that moment, unfolding its story across a lifetime — and every breath extends that original moment further into the present, shaped by our own consciousness and experience.

Self and Cosmos in Dialogue

When we name our birth date and time, we are pointing to something beyond biographical data. We are naming a living relationship between self and cosmos — one that continues to move through every choice, every challenge, every awakening.  It describes the flow of the tides in our lives.  Which way do we go to swim with the tide that is aligned with our soul-level truth?

The planets keep moving. New configurations form. And those configurations play their chords against the original theme — your theme. Transits and progressions, in this frame, are the universe continuing to speak in the same language it used at the moment you arrived, pressing on the same archetypal material, inviting a deeper response.

The Question of Free Will

The chart describes terrain, not direction.

There is always a lower and a higher expression of any archetypal configuration. Saturn prominent in a chart can show up as fear and rigidity — or as integrity, depth, and hard-won wisdom. Neptune can dissolve into confusion and escapism, or open toward genuine mystical perception. The pattern is the invitation, not the outcome. In every moment, the question is available: which expression of this energy am I choosing?

Working consciously with the archetypal current of a lifetime is not passive drift. It means bringing intention and awareness to the energies that are already moving through you, rather than spending that same energy in resistance to them.

The chart says: this is the water you are swimming in. What you do in the water remains your choice to make.
